Troubleshooting
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone (Settings > Bluetooth) and your GoPro is powered on. On your GoPro, go to Preferences > Wireless Connections and confirm Bluetooth is turned on. If the camera was previously paired with another device, you may need to remove the pairing first. Restart both devices and try again.
Live preview requires a WiFi connection between your iPhone and GoPro. When you tap the preview button, the app will activate WiFi on your camera and prompt you to connect. If the preview freezes or shows a black screen, toggle the preview off and on. Make sure no other device is connected to the camera's WiFi network.
Not all settings are available on all GoPro models. For example, older cameras may not support 5.3K resolution or HyperSmooth Boost. If a setting fails to apply, your camera doesn't support that specific option or combination. Try a different resolution/frame rate combination. Also make sure your camera firmware is up to date.
File transfers happen over WiFi. For faster speeds on supported models (Hero10 and newer), enable Turbo Transfer in the app's download settings. Make sure you're in close range of the camera (within a few meters) and there's no interference from other WiFi networks. Large 4K files can take a few minutes — this is normal.
Bluetooth range is typically 10-15 meters. If you move too far from your camera, the connection may drop. Walls and water also reduce range. Make sure your GoPro has sufficient battery — cameras with low battery may disconnect to save power. Updating your GoPro's firmware can also improve connection stability.
On your GoPro, go to Preferences > Wireless Connections > Reset Connections. This will clear all paired devices. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth, find the GoPro in the device list, and tap the (i) icon to "Forget This Device." Then open GoPro Remote and pair again from scratch.
Tips
- Keep firmware updated. GoPro releases firmware updates that improve Bluetooth stability and add features. Update via the official GoPro app or SD card.
- Use Bluetooth for controls, WiFi for preview. The app uses Bluetooth by default for camera control (start/stop, settings). WiFi only activates when you need live preview or file transfers — this saves battery on both devices.
- One connection at a time. Your GoPro can only maintain one Bluetooth connection. Make sure no other phone or app is connected to the camera.
